The Pohlmann Program gives free age-appropriate books to children participating in the backpack program through the River Bend Foodbank. The Backpack Program serves over 1100 children in 18 schools in the Quad Cities who are part of free and reduced fee lunch programs. These children, statistically are at risk of having little or no access to books, receive free, age-appropriate books with their food packs from River Bend four times per year. Included with the books is an activity sheet provided by WQPT to encourage additional learning. In total, over 3,000 books were distributed during the past school year. The Pohlmann Program was named in honor of Pete Pohlmann who volunteered his time to serve as United Way of the Quad Cities Area's Interim Director for half of 2007.
