Operation Read expanded last year to include six different schools in the Quad Cities. Volunteers visit the sites each week and share books with elementary school students as well as engage the students in fun activities related to the books. At the end of the program, children choose a new book to keep. Children are surveyed at the beginning of the year and them again at the end to gauge their interest in reading. The program, now completing its second full year, has shown significantly more children listing reading as one of their three favorite activities in post-tests.
